The Honorary Consulate of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Fukuoka

WSD supported the establishment and operation of the Consulate of the Kingdom of Cambodia in the southern city of Fukuoka in Japan. The Consulate’s two major undertakings each year are the Cambodia Study Program and the Asian Pacific Festival hosted by Fukuoka City.

The capital of Fukuoka Prefecture, Fukuoka sits on the northern shore of Japan’s Kyushu Island and is the sixth largest city in Japan. Historically, its nautical proximity to Korea, China and the rest of Asia has made Fukuoka a key port city. In ancient times, the nearby city of Dazaifu was the administrative capital and later during the medieval period, Fukuoka was the residence of a powerful daimyo and exerted significant influence. In more recent years, Fukuoka serves as the economic center of the Kyushu region. Support for international relations provides an important role in the ongoing relationship between Japan and Asia including Cambodia.
